Hurricane the storm is predicted to strengthen into a infrequent highest-level cyclone as it shifts towards the Caribbean island, delivering dangerous rapid inundation and rock falls.

The cyclone, which had winds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is now shifting northwest in the Caribbean and is projected to hit the coast by midweek, based on data from meteorological authorities.

Warnings of electricity outages and damage to infrastructure have been issued as Melissa brings up to 76cm of rainfall and storm surges as high as thirteen feet above ground. "Take cover without delay," inhabitants have been urged.

This hurricane is the thirteenth cyclone in this year's Atlantic storm period, which normally finishes in the eleventh month.

Inhabitants are being instructed to secure their homes with protective bags and wooden boards, and to stock up on necessary supplies.
